Lymm High School Reading Workshop

On 15th January 2009, Katherine Hamlett, organised a reading workshop for Y7 pupils and parents.
Whilst their parents were learning how to support them with their reading, the Y7 pupils were entertained by performer/poet, Paul Cookson. (http://www.paulcooksonpoet.co.uk) They had great fun in this lively and hilarious workshop writing and performing poems. Here are two poems the pupils preformed for parents at the end of the evening. You have to imagine the actions, facial expressions and voices of the pupils.

It’s Not Fair

It’s not
It’s not
It’s not fair
We have to the poem
We can’t watch tv
We have to do homework
It’s not
It’s not
It’s not fair.

It’s not
It’s not
It’s not fair
We have to have early mornings
We have to have top buttons fastened
Sixth formers can use the crossing
It’s not
It’s not
It’s not fair.

When The Teacher Isn’t There

We predict a riot
People start to swear
People throwing paper
When the teacher isn’t there

People stand on tables
Bounce on their chairs
We all mess about
When the teacher isn’t there.

We steal people’s bag
Beth does her hair
We swing on the lights
When the teacher isn’t there.

Warrington Libraries Youth Council

Warrington Libraries Youth Council held their first meeting at the Halliwell Jones Stadium on 23rd October 2008. This initial meeting of pupil representatives from high schools and library book groups was mainly about planning the council and sharing ideas for future meetings. The Bibliotech group from Birchwood Library gave an excellent presentation about their recent healthy eating and Paddington Bear projects and then there was a discussion about the Library Offer to Young People. As part of the national Fulfilling Their Potential Programme, our Warrington Library Council members have been asked to take part in this consultation. They have been asked to canvas opinions of their peers in time for the next meeting in December. Keep an eye on the blog for more information and updates.
